History


The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) was established on 4th November 1975 by the Government of India as an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training. The main objective of the commission was to recruit staff for various Group B and Group C posts in different departments and ministries of the Indian government and its subordinate offices.

Initially, the commission was named the Subordinate Services Commission and it was later renamed the Staff Selection Commission in 1977. In the early years, the commission had its headquarters in different cities such as Delhi, Allahabad, and Kolkata. However, in 1979, the headquarters of the commission was finally shifted to New Delhi, where it is currently located.
